Deployment steps

How connection works

The final connection involves routing a fibre-optic cable between the street and your home, where an optical termination box is mounted.

Generally, the fibre cabling follows the route of the existing telephone network, whether underground in ducts or overhead on poles.

HOW IS FIBRE INSTALLED IN MY HOME?

For individual homes

The termination box is linked to a public optical connection point (normally in the street) near your home. The 5mm-diameter cable takes the same route as the copper cable from the existing telephone network.

Each home is different, which means that the configurations and connections are too. Wherever possible, engineers use the same route as the telephone network to bring the fibre into the property. But if needed, they can drill a hole through the wall and run the fibre-optic cable along skirting or doorways.

For multiple occupancy buildings

Your apartment can only be connected if an agreement has been signed with the majority of home owners or with the factors managing agent allowing the deployment of our fibre network internally.

If you are a home owner, we may need your help to contact and secure a wayleave from your factors to deploy fibre to your building.

FAQs

Why choose fibre over FTTC or 4G?

Full fibre is the most future proof technology for your home. Your broadband speed does not depend on how far your home is from your street cabinet or your nearest mobile mast. It will always be as advertised by your service provider. Fibre will give you higher speeds and unlimited downloads and will support simultaneous usage from all family members. Fibre networks are also more reliable than copper networks.

How will the cable be routed into my home?

Installation of the fibre-optic cable is unobtrusive. It can be routed in an existing duct or run along skirting.

Where is the optical termination box installed?

It is advisable to mount the optical termination box close to your TV and a power socket, within 10 meters of the building entry point, however you can speak to your engineer about placing the box elsewhere. Upon completion, you will be asked  for your feedback on the installation work.
